In 2018, Boston Properties, one of the nation’s largest real estate investment trusts, hired SSC in advance of two noteworthy projects: the opening of the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco and the launch of artist Jim Campbell’s video installation atop the tower: Day for Night. With Boston Properties as the owner and operator of the Salesforce Tower and Salesforce as the majority renter, SSC was challenged with developing an earned media strategy that neither overshadowed nor competed with Salesforce.
SSC’s strategy leaned heavily into the local interest in the tower’s art installation, which has since become a focal point of the city. The installation’s launch was covered by the New Yorker as well as several other local and national media outlets. The Salesforce Tower opening was also highlighted in nearly every Bay Area news outlet the week of its launch, leading to greater brand recognition for Boston Properties and its expanded West Coast enterprises.
